The South Texas environment plays a big part in the selection of animals used in our breeding program. Our cattle must have good feet and legs to travel in larger pastures. We expect our herd bulls and females to maintain good condition in both good and bad times therefore our catttle tend to be more moderate in size. Our bulls must be clean sheathed in order to navigate the terrain without issues. Natural selection does play a big part in our breeding program, but we choose to take additional steps to make sure we are producing great gaining cattle with excellent carcass traits. We have fed our cattle out in the feedlot and continue to gain test and ultrasound our bulls. In addition to using our herd bulls, we choose to AI a large portion of our cowherd in an effort to offer our clients some of the most progressive genetics in the Santa Gertrudis breed.
In the past year we have AI'ed to the following bulls: Hellacious (owned by Urbanosky Ranch), PS Caddo (owned by PS Ranch), DHF Hoosier Daddy 74/3 (owned by Hunt's Diamond H Farms), Gunslinger 13/5 (owned by Flying C Ranch and Winrock Farms), Copperhead 214 (owned by Tinney Farms and Southern Breeze Ranch) and Alexander 156/8 (owned by Strait Ranches).
